TRANING COMPETITION LAW FOR THAI OFFICERS
Background of the assignment
Thai government is now proceeding to make the new antimonopoly Act. Therefore it needs technical guidance and advice to staff of Department of International Trade (DIT) in implementing and managing competition policies/laws and consumer protection. Japan Fair Trade Commission (JFTC) and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) provided training to DIT staff by sending a Japanese expert tot he DIT for close cooperation.
APEC/PFP COURSE ON COMPETITION POLICY
Background of APEC/PFP
Partners for Progress (PFP) is a project cooperation between the Government of Japan and the Government of the Kingdom of Thailand with each other in organizing a training course in the field of competition policy.
The Government of the Kingdom of Thailand will conduct the Course with the support of the Government of Japan. The Course will be held once a year from Japanese fiscal year (JFY) 1996 to JFY 2000, subject to annual consultations between both Government and based on the approval of relevant APEC committees.
Purpose
The Government of the Kingdom of Thailand, as a co-initiator, will implement the PFP project on competition policy at the Department of internal Trade (DIT) in collaboration with the Fair Tarde Commission (FTC) the Government of Japan through Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). This project aims to develop human resources capable of establish as well as effectively managing competition policy and law, in order to establish an environment.
Objectives
At the end of the Course, the participants are expected to have:
acquired knowledge of policy implementation from the developments in economic and legal theory concerning competition policies/laws;
deepened understanding of the role of competition policies/laws in developing economies;
broadened the knowledge of discussions concerning competition policies/laws in other international fora to be ulilized in policy-making; and
acquired knowledge of other competition authorities views on the above matters.
