Policy Statement

Malaysia

At the moment Malaysia has no specific Act on Competition, but as a free enterprise economy, we encourage healthy competition and a fair play of the market forces of supply and demand. The Government has, since the 1980s, embarked on policies of deregulation and liberalisation of the economy. Our continuous efforts towards deregulation of trade and investment, together with accelerated privatisation of trade-owned enterprises in traditionally monopolistic sectors such as power generation, the distribution sector, telecommunications, transport and the postal services has boosted overall market competitiveness. Malaysia is committed to the liberalisation of the market place and will continue to pursue such outward orientation and free-market strategies.
