Fair Trade Commission Guidelines on
Advertising Electrical Appliances

- (Purpose)
These guidelines ("Guidelines") are enacted to ensure fair competition among enterprises and protect consumer's rights and interest by preventing enterprises from employing false, untrue or misleading catalogs or information provided by the suppliers for their advertisements when selling electrical appliances and causing unfair competition.
- (Definition)
The term "electrical appliances" referred to in these Guidelines shall mean electrothermal or electric equipment or the combination of both, or products of electromagnetic induction suitable for household use or similar purposes and their parts/components.
- (Governing Object)
These Guidelines shall govern enterprises that sell electrical appliances to the end consumers.
- (Truthful Representations)
With regard to advertisements or relevant sales information of the electrical appliances sold, enterprises shall make sure the specifications and origins of manufacture stated in the advertisements or relevant sales information shall be exactly the same as the actual products sold.
- (Advertiser's Obligations of Verification and Care)
When the suppliers employ catalogs or other information as advertisements, enterprises shall verify the truthfulness of said information and use reasonable care against making false, untrue or misleading representations or symbols in the contents of product label affixed to the electrical appliance itself, on the packaging, or in the product descriptions.
- (Correction Period)
Enterprises shall actively inspect their advertisements or relevant sales information regarding the electrical appliances sold and make corrections accordingly within three(3) months after the promulgation of these Guidelines. Those who fail to make the corrections within three (3) months will be investigated by the FTC individually.
- (Penalty)
Enterprises that violate Article 4 or Article 5 of the Fair Trade Law by making false advertisements or representations of the electrical appliances shall also violate Article 21 of the same Law.
